Clone Move Features

The Clone function is a shortcut tool to allow users to quickly copy features or create new features to new or existing parts. This function can decrease the time spent modeling fixtures, tools, or common points. Available moves that have the Clone function: Six Plane move, Step Plane move, Two Point move and Three Point move.

Procedure:

Open a move dialog and pick one set of features (Object or Target features) from an existing part(s).  During this step, follow the standard procedure for picking features for the move.

Leave the fields blank for the features (Object or Target features) that do not exist yet.

Select Clone Object/Target features.  This will bring up the Clone to Part dialog with the current points in the move.

When a new part is to be created select Clone to new part.

Use Global Coordinate System: will copy/move the point from the GCS (Global Coordinate System) of the first part to the GCS of the second part based on the built or separated state of the model.  This is desirable when parts are all designed in individual coordinate systems and features on mating parts have different X,Y,Z coordinates.

Use Local Coordinate System: will copy/move the point from the LCS (Local Coordinate System) of the first part to the LCS of the second part regardless of the built or separated state of the model.  This is desirable when parts are all designed in the same global coordinate system and common points, with the same X,Y,Z coordinates, are needed between mating parts or fixtures.

Type in the name of the new part "Fixture" and Select Pick Parent.  This will prompt the selection of the location in the assembly for the new part.

If the Points to be copied to an existing part, the Clone to existing part should be selected. Pick Part would be used to fill in the name of the part and where the points will be created.

Notes:

Prefix and Suffix can be used to modify the cloned points name. These name extensions should be added before clicking the Clone button.

If the [Clone Object Feature List] was originally selected, the points that were cloned will be in the Target list.

If the [Clone Target Feature List] was originally selected, the new points will be placed in the Object list.
