Using Parts with Embedded GD&T

In the Creating Tolerances lesson we learned about the first way to add variation to parts. 3DCS also has the ability to read the embedded part GD&T.

 

Search for Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson5 Simulation: Sim: Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson5 and open it.

Go to the North quadrant of the Compass: Collaborative Lifecycle. Switch to the Lifecycle Management app.

Select the Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson5 Simulation and select Duplicate Duplicate.

Right-click the Simulation and select [Properties]. Change the name to "Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7".

Switch back to the 3DCS Toolbar by clicking the south quadrant of the compass then clicking [3DCS Variation Analyst].

 

Go to [File] arrowDCS [Save Management].

Select the Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson5.CATProduct and select [Save As...].

In the Save As dialog, rename the Product to "Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7.CATProduct" and click [Save].

In the Save Management dialog select [OK] to save the CATIA Product under its new name. The model is not actually saved until you click OK.

 

Go to [File] arrowDCS [Save As].

In the Save a Copy dialog, enter "Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7" for the File Name, and make sure the Type is set to Assembly (*.asm).  Click [OK].

In the Assembly Save a Copy dialog, click [Save Copy and Open] to save the assembly under its new name, and open the newly saved assembly.

Close the Creo window for Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson5.

Click DVTI_dcsUpdateModel Update Model in the new window for Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7.

 

Go to [File] arrowDCS [Save As].

In the Save As dialog, enter "Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7" as the new File name and make sure the type is set to Part Files (*.prt).

Click [OK] to save the model and close the Save As dialog.

Click DVTI_dcsUpdateModel Update Model.

 

Go to [File] arrowDCS [Save As].

In the Save a Copy dialog, enter "Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7" for the File Name, and make sure the Type is set to Assembly (*.asm).

In the Assembly Save a Copy dialog, click [Save Copy and Open] to save the assembly under its new name, and open the newly saved assembly.

Click DVTI_dcsUpdateModel Update Model in the new window for Feature_Based_Assembly_Lesson7.
