Creating Model Variants

 

Go to File arrowDCS Save Management.

Select the Lesson_5 Manual Gear Shifter Asm.CATProduct and select [Save As...].

Navigate to a New folder and rename to "Lesson6" that will be easily accessible later.

Click [Propagate Directory] to save a copy of the CATPart files to the new folder.

In the Save As dialog, rename the Product to "Lesson_6 Manual Gear Shifter Asm" and click [Save].

In the Save Management dialog select [OK] to save the CATIA Product under its new name. The model is not saved until you click OK.

Click the MC Application Button Icon Application Button then select MC 7500 Save As Icon Save As.

Change the File Name to "Lesson_6 Manual Gear Shifter Asm"and make sure the Type is set to WTX DATA(*.wtx)

Click [Save] in the Save As dialog.

DVTI_ModelVariants Model Variants allows users to create different varieties of Moves, Tolerances and Measures, which the user can activate or switch between one or multiple different model scenarios.

In this model.

 

In this Model we will be creating 3 Model Variants

1. Static Design- To Analyze the Model in the final static position

2. Static extreme- To Analyze the Model in the extreme static position

3. Motion- To Analyze the Model in Motion.

 

Procedure:

From the Model Creation toolbar, select DVTI_ModelVariants Model Variants icon to open the dialog.

Select [Add MTMs] from the dialog and select moves,"Surface Offset Lever to Frame", "Rotate Lever see range of Motion" and "Rotate Lever extreme pos" and all the Measurements.

The Dialog after adding the MTMs will look like the image below.

Selecting the First Variant column and hit [Copy Variant] button from the dialog Twice.

Right click on the Variant_1 name and select Rename to change the Name to "Static Design"

Again Right click on the Variant Name and select "Edit Description" to add a Description for the Variant.

Repeat the Same for the other 2 Variants

For Variant "Static Design" uncheck the boxes for Moves "Rotate Lever see range of motion" and "Rotate Lever extreme pos" and Measurement "Gap b/w stick & Frame Plate".

For Variant "Static Extreme" uncheck all the boxes except for for "Rotate Lever extreme pos",  and Measurement "Gap b/w stick & Frame plate"

For Variant "Motion" only check the box for "Rotate Lever see range of motion" and uncheck all other boxes, as we creating this Variant only to see the Rotation of the Lever part in the assembled Position, no measurements are required.

The dialog should look like the below image.
