4. Feature Selection Tab

4.1. The Mech moves only allow either one or two features to be selected in each feature list. The object and target lists do not need to contain the same number of features. Be consistent and logical when selecting object and target features and parts for ease of modeling.

4.2. If a part has been added to a Fixed move, it should be selected as the target in subsequent moves.

4.3. If a part is the object in its first move (primary plane or axis,) it should be the object in its following moves (controlling secondary and/or tertiary locators.)

4.3.1. When both parts move to attach to each other, e.g. when bringing together the last links in a four-bar linkage, either part can be the object or target.

4.4. 3DCS will automatically handle moves that have been set non-intuitively (e.g. a Fixed part as the object,) but modeling so will:

4.4.1. Make the model harder to understand.

4.4.2. Increase the risk of move errors.

4.5. When working with multiple assembly levels, make sure you have the desired parts selected in the Move Parts tab. 3DCS automatically adds the sub-asm part if the move is made at the highest assembly level (root level.) In many cases, these parts will need to be replaced with child parts.

4.5.1. 3DCS automatically replaces the parts when features are changed with the sub-asm part.

4.6. When creating moves for both child and parent parts, you may need to use FixTogether for the moves to solve as desired.
