Move Parts Tab

5. Move Parts Tab

5.1. The Move Parts tab from most Mech moves only allows two parts to be added: the first should contain the object features and the second should contain the target features. When creating a Mech move, however, it is common for the object features or the target features to be from separate parts. This is especially common with flat or non-ideal tree structures. For example, when a shaft with two bearings is attached to the rest of the assembly, the two object features will be the outer surfaces of each bearing.

5.2. When creating a move with a feature outside of the selected move part, a previous move must have attached the move part to the feature’s part. In the example, first two revolute moves must attach each bearing to the shaft. Then either bearing can be the object move part in the final move, and the other bearing and the shaft will move with it.

5.3. A Fix Together move can also be used to make a set of parts into a rigid sub-asm. This move can be used after classic moves, after Mech moves (e.g. the two revolute moves), or without any previous moves if the parts will be toleranced as a single part.

5.4. If the parts have been fully constrained, then the Fixed move should be used instead. For example, if the two bearings are located on two separate support brackets, then a Fixed move can be used to hold the two support brackets in place.
