Move Type Selection

2. Moves Type Selection

2.1. Select the move type based on how the parts are attached. Consider the number of DoFs restrained by the attachment.

2.2. For example, if a long pin is inserted into a long hole (4 DoFs,) use the Cylinder move.

2.3. If a stop prevents the pin from sliding in and out of the hole (5 DoFs,) use the Revolute move.

2.4. If either the pin or hole is “short,” allowing other attachment points to force the hole and pin to tilt relative to each other, the hole-pin pair only restrains 2 DoFs. Use the Point on Line move.

2.5. Use the DoF Counter to check for under-constrained parts and move errors.

2.6. The first move in a typical model will be a Fixed move to set the base part. This will be the part or fixture all the other parts will move to.
