Smoothing

Smoothing is used in all Compliant routines that can cause deformation, to improve the graphical deviation visualization. This feature applies to single parts.

Each modeling point will follow the deviation of the mesh node to which they are linked. The other points will deform just like they do in a rigid model: DCS points deform based on tolerances and moves applied to them and feature points will follow the feature they are linked with.

Smoothing can be globally turned on or off from Activate/Deactivate MTMs or Activate/Deactivate MTMs (Global).

Smoothing has two options:

RSM Smoothing:

Applies to the whole part and creates an approximate deformation, based on the displacement of modeling points linked to FEA mesh nodes. For better visualization it is recommended that the linked modeling points will be evenly distributed over the surface of the part. Increasing the number of linked points will increase the deformation accuracy for the entire part. At the same time it may increase the calculation time because all points that are linked to mesh nodes are also part of the stiffness matrix file; the larger the file the longer the calculation may be.
