Purpose and usage:
•LockDOF is a constraining method without part deformation. Mostly applied to constrain a point in space without the involvement of a Fixture.
•It is used to constrain a hole on a pin after it was floated with a rigid move in one or two directions.
Things to know about LockDOF:
=> It's applied only on unconstrained flexible parts (before clamps, joins, etc).
=> Locked points do not move when subsequent compliant moves are applied.
=> This is not a permanent operation; you can release these features using the UnLockDOF move.
=> Locking applies square to grid only, in pure x, y, or z directions.
8.1 The B_Base hole will be locked in X-dir and Y-dir and the C_Base slot will be locked in Y-dir only. This way the hole and slot can slide on the AsmFixture pins in Z-dir.
8.1.1 Select the LockDOF icon and chose the CMRailAsm product as parent part.
8.1.2 Name the move "LockDOF_Base__B_C" with a description of "LockDOF Base hole in x, y-dir and slot width in y-dir"
8.1.3 Click on the [ClickToAdd] button in the Positioning Pts section and select points B_Base and C_Base on the Base part from the Navigation Tree or from the Graph window.
8.1.4 In the XYZ section check the X and Y boxes for B_Base to constrain it in X and Y directions.
8.1.5 In the XYZ section check the Y box for C_Base to constrain it in Y direction only. This will allow the C_Base point to slide in Y-dir, along the Fixture pin.
8.1.6 Rx, Ry, Rz are rotational degrees of freedom. Leave the rotations free.
8.1.7 The completed dialog box should appear as below:
8.1.8 Click [OK] to close the LockDOF move dialog box.
8.1.9 Save the model.
Results:
The nominal values of the measurements after locking the Base remain unchanged.
